Partnerships With Parents

Halifax St Children’s Centre and Preschool views parents as partners in supporting children’s early learning and encourages your participation in the program. Parent involvement may be on a casual or formal basis.

At the Centre we strive to provide a range of communication avenues between families and staff that will fit with the needs of families and support the development of effective partnerships between families and staff.  Opportunities for communication between families and staff include:

  • Informal conversations between families and educators during arrivals and departures each day – educators will pass messages on to the relevant staff or parents if they are on early shift or if they are leaving for the day
  • Learning stories and other documentation included in children’s individual learning portfolios
  • Planned meetings or phone calls between parents and educators
  • Regular newsletters from both the whole centre and individual rooms
  • Important notes or reminders may be displayed on the whiteboard near the front entrance or on room pin-boards
  • Parenting information sessions facilitated by the centre
  • Letters or emails providing feedback or suggestions from families are welcome at any time
  • Occasionally the centre will distribute surveys to seek information to further improve our practice

Families are actively encouraged to be involved in the centre in the following ways:

  • Membership of the Management Committee
  • Membership of sub-committees
  • Attending and participating in parent information sessions
  • Attending and participating in centre functions including whole-centre and individual room family events and celebrations
  • Attending and supporting centre excursions

We are always welcoming of further suggestions from families of ways they would like to be involved in the Centre.
